How do you prevent cheap jewelry from turning?

Like Claire's jewelry or some of the stuff from For Love 21/Forever 21. After some time it can change colors and get sort of rusty looking. I heard that you can paint clear nail polish on it and it won't change. Any other tips?

And then the clear nail polish starts chipping and you have little flakes with the funny rusty color slices coming off your jewelry. The chemicals in your skin cause those changes, so pretty much you just need to plan to replace things as they get bad.

im pretty sure if you keep the jewerly in a tight close up case (kind of like the case you would get if you were to buy a new pair of earrings) it wont change diff colors.

costume jewelry is not meant to last forever, it’s cheap because the material and workmanship is cheap. What you pay is what you get. Maybe upgrade to sterling silver, copper and gold filled. Those metals last a life time with proper care and you don’t have to worry about the things you are describing.
    Cheers
